On May 28 we celebrated World Menstruation Day at ISD which combined student learning with plans for action. Throughout the semester our Year 6 students engaged in a Science Unit on biology which included learning experiences where students learned from public health experts about hygiene and taboos surrounding menstruation.
Partnering with a NGO Wreetu students participated in a workshop where they learned from social innovators in our community who are dedicated to helping girls in Bangladesh become empowered through menstruation education and access sanitary supplies. Students developed ideas to help destigmatise menstration at ISD through awareness and learning experiences. After all students presented their ideas, students then voted for their top choices. As a group we then created a plan to implement the ideas that were selected. Future plans include:
